Buyer/Planner

Responsibilities

  • Determine raw material requirements based on new orders, computer generated MRP information and customer forecast
  • Process purchase orders and maintain raw material inventories
  • Communicate with suppliers when placing orders, following up with orders, new requests for quotes (RFQ’s), and quality issues
  • Maintain, update and evaluate Approved Supplier Listing
  • Coordinate delivery of raw materials with scheduling, customer service, shipping/receiving and engineering to meet production plan
  • Identify potential sources for new products and material
  • Negotiate with suppliers on pricing, delivery and services
  • Schedule all process areas efficiently for all assigned program utilizing the ERP system to develop work schedules that facilitate the timely completion of job orders based on relative priority
  • Monitor and coordinate production scheduling of assigned programs from beginning to end to ensure shipment per commitments
  • Investigate and take necessary action on sales order changes, cancellations, pricing issues, customer complaints, etc.
  • Ensure all supplies and equipment necessary to run jobs are available
  • Complete supplier evaluations per corporate policy
  • Assist engineering department to attain new project purchased components and raw material information and set up item standards in manufacturing system
  • Some programs may have vision requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

      - Where applicable, individual is pre-planning safety into work activities to improve performance
      - Proactively identifies safety concerns
      - Complies with Environmental Management System program SOP’s/WI, Policy & Program elements and encourages responsible use of resources
  • Actively participate in continual improvement/innovation, corrective action and internal/external customer satisfaction

Qualifications - Education & Experience

  • B.S. degree in business with a minimum of 3 - 6 years of related experience,
    OR
  • 5 -15 years of directly related experience and education with no degree

Qualifications - Skills & Competencies

  • Basic math skills (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Satisfactory work and attendance record
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computer (Excel/Word/Access)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing system
  • Demonstrable ability to take initiative
  • Demonstrable ability to be thorough and accurate
  • Ability to manage multiple small- to medium-scale projects/programs
  • Ability to understand and implement customer requirements
  • Ability meet financial goals
